The Archaeological Museum of Salamina is housed in the building of the old, 1st Primary School (Kapodistriako) of the city, which functioned as a school from 1830 until 1981, where after an earthquake it suffered serious damage and ceased to function. Thus, in 1996, following the actions of the then 2nd EPKA and with the consent of the Municipality of Salamina, it was granted to the YPPO in order to become an Archaeological Museum and to house the findings from the excavations that were carried out in various areas of the island. The findings are mainly works of ceramic and sculptural art, covering the entire duration of the island's rich ancient history, from Prehistoric times (Final Neolithic era) to Late Antiquity. The work of the building was completed in 2005 and from 2006 the preparation of the exhibition began. Since June 2010 the Archaeological Museum has opened its doors to the public. The Museum is supervised by the 6th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and its purpose, in addition to the collection, recording, preservation and exhibition of the finds, is for the Museum to become a cultural attraction for the local community, organizing educational programs, lectures, concerts, exhibitions, etc. Days and hours of operation: MONDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays closed WEDNESDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. THURSDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. FRIDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. SATURDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. SUNDAY 8:30 AM – 3:30 p.m. Admission: Tickets: Full: €3, Concession: €2 (The text was written by Ms. Maria Butsi). 6977388814.
